Fought & Company, Inc. Ships Steel for PDX Concourse E Terminal Expansion

Fought & Company began shipping out steel members for the PDX Concourse E terminal in October. By spring 2020, the airport will complete a six-gate expansion of Concourse E terminal, rerouting all Southwest passengers to the north side of the airport.

The five-year concourse expansion project—which will cost an estimated $215 million—is being managed by Skanska, a Swedish construction and development company and comes alongside a larger $1.3 billion project focused on the airport’s “terminal core.” Portland architecture firm Hennebery Eddy, in partnership with Colorado-based Fentress, designed the soaring, angled expansion, which will extend the concourse an extra 830 feet—longer than two football fields placed end-to-end—to the east, parallel the parking structure.

The project is borne, in part, from a need to rejigger passenger flow through the airport, essentially splitting the airport’s two most popular carriers. Currently, Alaska and Southwest are on the south, and that’s putting a lot of strain on folks who are using the security checkpoint for [Concourses] A, B, and C.

The University District Gateway Bridge Sections Ship

Fought & Company proudly shipped out the last section of The University District Gateway Bridge in mid-April, 2018. Fought carefully separated the bridge into three sections and loaded them individually onto separate flat bed trucks. Traveling 360 miles East on I-84 from Tigard, Oregon to Spokane, Washington took the trucks about six hours. The newly-completed steel and concrete arch awaited their arrival.

The University District Gateway Bridge forms a direct connection for pedestrians between Washington State University's Spokane campus and the emerging South University neighborhood, crossing an arterial and BNSF railroad tracks. Knitting together these two urban communities, which have different characters and histories, spurs much-needed economic growth on the south side of the tracks and links the university with housing and retail opportunities. The Gateway Bridge is expected to be completed in 2018.

Fought & Company Connects with Bridges to Prosperity

Fought & Company, Inc. was proud to select Patrick Montgomery to represent our company in the construction of a new pedestrian bridge located in El Macho, Panama, organized by Bridges to Prosperity or B2P. Bridges to Prosperity works with isolated communities to create access to essential health care, education and economic opportunities by building footbridges over impassable rivers. B2P measures success by the long lasting impact training and bridge projects have on the reduction of rural poverty due to isolation. Patrick's trip was made possible by Fought & Company, Inc., and by our partner Ironworkers Local 516. Patrick's trip to Panama lasted for a total of two weeks.

Patrick was born in 1982, in Seattle Washington and is a Pacific Northwest native. He has been an Ironworker since 1998 and is currently a 4th year (final year) Apprentice Mechanic at Fought & Company. Mechanic is our version of Fitter or Assembler and is the highest achievable level as a fabricator at Fought. Patrick fabricates high rise components and bridge girders, and completes assembly checks of bridges prior to shipment. He takes tremendous pride in his work ethic and was very excited, and grateful for the B2P opportunity.
