1. bridge shop supervisor

Founded in 1949, Fought & Company, Inc. is a large Structural Steel Fabrication company located in Tigard, Oregon. Fought produces the fabricated steel for many of the buildings and bridges in the Portland, Oregon area. We are currently recruiting for an experienced Bridge Shop Supervisor with the technical resources necessary to address the complexities of AISC, AWS and AREMA codes in a fabrication facility. This position reports to the Plant Manager.

  • Collaborate with Preconstruction Department in developing bridge estimates for Design-Build, Bid-Build and Alternative Delivery for all types of bridge projects, i.e.; fracture critical components, tub, box, arch girders, trusses, etc.

  • Provide technical support relative to production issues concerning AISC, AWS, ASTM and AREMA codes and standards.

  • Assist the Production Team to determine appropriate bridge fabrication processes and methods for each awarded bridge project.

  • Assist with RFI generation and resolution.

  • Assist with Change Orders.

  • Anticipate potential challenges with current and upcoming bridge projects including but not limited to technical, contractual and fabrication issues; delivery schedules, etc.

  • Participate in meetings with the production team, additional department teams and clients as needed.

  • Ensure employees follow all shop procedures and company policies while meeting production goals.

  • Support Fought’s safety culture.

  • Support the company’s culture of respect in the workplace.

  • Other duties as assigned.

qualifications & duties include

  • 3 – 5 years experience as a Supervisor in a steel fabrication facility.

  • Extensive knowledge of AISC, AWS and AREMA codes relative to steel bridge fabrication, including railroad bridges.

  • Experience in steel bridge fabrication processes, including but not limited to: reading and interpreting complex bridge drawings, project specifications, DOT specifications, etc.

  • Ability to collaborate with the Preconstruction; Production and Project Management Teams to successfully complete bridge projects on time and under budget without compromising quality or safety.

  • Experience with construction software (Bluebeam, Fabsuite, etc.) a plus.

  • Ability to communicate clearly with all superiors, peers, and subordinates in a professional manner.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Maintain a positive attitude, give superior customer service and have excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to understand and fulfill expectations.

  • Ability to multi task.

  • Reliable, punctual with great attendance.

  • This is a full-time position. Normal hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

physical demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee will spend a large portion of the workday in the shop. As such, the employee will be exposed to normal shop conditions, i.e.; moving mechanical parts and vibration, varying weather conditions and loud noises. The employee is required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

2. Senior Project Manager

The position of Senior Project Manager will provide the opportunity to work on some of the area’s largest construction projects. Position responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with the Purchasing, Preconstruction, Production, Erection, and Complex Coating departments to exceed customer expectations, meet project schedules, and maintain budget.

  • Generate and maintain project schedule, identifying key milestones and critical path.

  • Create and manage subcontracts to support project scope of work.

  • Delegate work to Project Engineers, Expeditors, Superintendents, and other project staff.

  • Reviews RFIs, ASIs, and revised structural/landscape/architectural drawings for scope of work impact. Pricing and issuing change order requests generated by design drawing and RFI contract modifications.

  • Generate and respond to RFIs regarding structural steel & miscellaneous steel details.

  • Manage decking, stair, coating, miscellaneous metals, detailing, and other subcontractors, shop drawing , quality, and engineering submitals.

qualifications & duties include

  • 2 years of work experience in the steel erection, steel fabrication, or related industries as a Project Engineer, Project Coordinator, or Project Manager.

  • 2 years of education beyond high school in Engineering, Construction Management, or Drafting (preferred but not required).

  • Capable of interpreting contract language, construction drawings, and understand basic engineering terminology.

  • Strong attention to details, ability to multi-task, highly organized, computer and tech savvy.

  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced team orientated office environment.

3. preconstruction estimator

Fought & Company Inc. in seeking an experienced steel fabrication estimator. This individual will be a key member of the Preconstruction Services Team and assist with estimating, business development, and sales. This individual will report to the Vice President of Preconstruction and will assist all team members with estimating functions, coordination and budgeting. This position is a growth position and opportunity for advancement will be great. Key position responsibilities include:

  • Experience performing structural steel fabrication estimating.

  • Understanding of various estimating concepts and fabrication techniques.

  • Detail oriented.

  • Ability to concentrate on fine details and accurately capture them on the takeoff.

  • Primary function: Estimating for structural steel fabrication.

  • Secondary function: Budgeting assistance.

  • Downloading bid requests and files at the direction of VP of Precon.

  • Managing Preconstruction Services files, both digital and hardcopy per dept. practices.

  • Archive and track estimate files with assistance from Preconstruction Coordinator.

  • Assist with document control if Preconstruction Coordinator is busy.

  • Liaise with Coordinator regarding bid calendar and schedules at the direction of the VP of Precon.

  • Perform the takeoff either by hand, or in Tekla / Bluebeam / FabSuite.

  • Print drawings, specs and documents as needed.

  • Ability to learn Tekla CM for Estimating.

  • Ability or experience with FabSuite or similar for estimating / budgeting.

  • Ability to learn Procore project management software for bidding.

  • Assist with departmental metric and tracking.

  • Preconstruction project budgeting.

  • Other duties as required depending upon workloads.

4. detailer - Full time

This is a skill position for an individual with Tekla detailing experience with structural steel projects.  The detailer will work under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Preconstruction. The right candidate will also assist developing new estimates and support the estimating department when not detailing active projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Detail structural steel projects.

  • Assist VP of Preconstruction with coordination between modeling software and estimating software.

  • Assist in rolling out procedures for streamlining shop labor into software based estimating process.

  • Train estimators in Tekla usage.

  • Integrate new and existing procedures into streamlined guidelines for future implementation.

  • Be experienced using Bluebeam Revu or Extreme, or possess the capability to learn quickly.

  • Ability to read and understand structural steel drawings, shop drawings and architectural drawings.

  • Experience, or ability to learn FabSuite.

  • Critical thinking, reasoning and professional communication is required.

  • 2 years of education beyond High School in Engineering, Structural or Architectural Drafting or Technology.

  • Positive attitude and a person who enjoys challenges and troubleshooting.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Strong attention to details, ability to multi-task, highly organized, computer and tech savvy.

  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced team orientated office environment.
