1. Shop Safety manager - Full-time

Fought & Company, Inc. is the premier Structural Steel Fabrication company located in Tigard, Oregon. Fought produces the fabricated steel for many of the buildings and bridges in the Western United States. We take safety seriously, and we require all of our employees to use the industry standard practices to keep everyone safe on the job. To that end, we are seeking an experienced Safety Manager who can evaluate the safety protocols appropriate for heavy manufacturing, organize and conduct safety training for employees and work with management to provide continued improvement to our safety culture.  This position will work primarily with the Production Team and Human Resources and will report directly to the CEO.

qualifications & duties include

  • Evaluate existing safety programs, policies and procedures and collaborate with the Production Team and Human Resources to create/update/improve existing safety programs, policies and procedures.

  • Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes or materials.

  • Inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment or work practices to ensure compliance with State and Federal safety standards and government regulations including but not limited to fire prevention equipment; safety equipment; first-aid supplies, etc.

  • Conduct accident and near-miss investigations to identify causes or to determine how such incidents may be prevented in the future.

  • Provide health and safety orientation for newly hired employees and develop materials for these presentations.

  • Conduct ongoing safety training of employees including demonstration of appropriate safety equipment.

  • Provide education on programs regarding hazardous chemicals or other substances.

  • Maintain various logs and spreadsheets including OSHA 300 Log.

  • Attend daily and weekly safety meetings lead by shop supervisors.

  • Collaborate with the Production Team and Human Resources.

  • Support the company’s culture of respect in the workplace.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of safety management in a heavy manufacturing environment required.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs.

  • Operate office equipment such as copiers, computers, etc.

  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Maintain a positive attitude, give superior customer service and have excellent problem solving skills.

  • Ability to multi task.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

physical demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  The employee will spend a large portion of the workday in the shop.  As such, the employee will be exposed to normal shop conditions, i.e.; moving mechanical parts and vibration, varying weather conditions and loud noises.  The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.

2. quality control inspector / CWI

qualifications & duties include

  • Current American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).

  • Experience working with one or more of the following American Welding Society (AWS) codes: D1.1, D1.5, D1.8.

  • Experience with dimensional inspection.

  • Experience conducting and witnessing welding procedure qualification and welder qualifications.

Past Experience/Certification as American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level II in one or more of the following disciplines:

  • Ultrasonic Testing / Shear Wave and Straight Beam.

  • Magnetic Particle Testing / Yoke method.

  • Dye Penetrant Testing (optional).

  • Radiographic Testing (optional).

  • Radiographic film interpretation (optional).

  • Ability to work independently to established procedures.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Excellent blueprint reading skills.

  • 1-5 years experience in Quality Control.

  • The ability to pass a drug screen.

  • Active participant in continuous improvement efforts that further the company values and efficiency of people and processes within the company.

  • Knowledge of AISC requirements is preferred.

  • Knowledge of RCSC specifications for High-Strength Bolts (ICC certification) is preferred.

  • Knowledge of SSPC Good Painting Practices (SSPC C1 certification) is preferred.

  • Knowledge of material specifications (ASTM) is preferred.

  • Knowledge of welding specifications (AWS) is preferred.

  • Proficient with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).

  • Experience in a fabrication environment, preferably production shop or general contractor companies.

  • Knowledge of software program FabSuite is preferred.

  • Physical demands of position will require the ability to maneuver in a shop or yard assembly environment. Extensive walking and standing, climbing on ladders, scaffolding, crouching, twisting, and stooping are often encountered. Must be able to assist with the manipulation of tooling and equipment.

  • The work environment can be physically demanding as well as in the proximity of moving equipment and cranes. Constant awareness of peripheral activity is necessary, with a mindfulness of not only personal safety, but the safety of people in the vicinity, and product and shop equipment. 3. Senior Project Manager

The position of Senior Project Manager will provide the opportunity to work on some of the area’s largest construction projects. Position responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with the Purchasing, Preconstruction, Production, Erection, and Complex Coating departments to exceed customer expectations, meet project schedules, and maintain budget.

  • Generate and maintain project schedule, identifying key milestones and critical path.

  • Create and manage subcontracts to support project scope of work.

  • Delegate work to Project Engineers, Expeditors, Superintendents, and other project staff.

  • Reviews RFIs, ASIs, and revised structural/landscape/architectural drawings for scope of work impact. Pricing and issuing change order requests generated by design drawing and RFI contract modifications.

  • Generate and respond to RFIs regarding structural steel & miscellaneous steel details.

  • Manage decking, stair, coating, miscellaneous metals, detailing, and other subcontractors, shop drawing , quality, and engineering submitals.

qualifications & duties include

  • 2 years of work experience in the steel erection, steel fabrication, or related industries as a Project Engineer, Project Coordinator, or Project Manager.

  • 2 years of education beyond high school in Engineering, Construction Management, or Drafting (preferred but not required).

  • Capable of interpreting contract language, construction drawings, and understand basic engineering terminology.

  • Strong attention to details, ability to multi-task, highly organized, computer and tech savvy.

  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced team orientated office environment.

4. preconstruction estimator

Fought & Company Inc. in seeking an experienced steel fabrication estimator. This individual will be a key member of the Preconstruction Services Team and assist with estimating, business development, and sales. This individual will report to the Vice President of Preconstruction and will assist all team members with estimating functions, coordination and budgeting. This position is a growth position and opportunity for advancement will be great. Key position responsibilities include:

  • Experience performing structural steel fabrication estimating.

  • Understanding of various estimating concepts and fabrication techniques.

  • Ability to concentrate on fine details and accurately capture them on the takeoff.

  • Assist with document control if Preconstruction Coordinator is busy.

  • Liaise with Coordinator regarding bid calendar and schedules at the direction of the VP of Precon.

  • Perform the takeoff either by hand, or in Tekla / Bluebeam / FabSuite.

  • Print drawings, specs and documents as needed.

  • Ability to learn Tekla CM for Estimating.

  • Ability or experience with FabSuite or similar for estimating / budgeting.

  • Ability to learn Procore project management software for bidding.

  • Assist with departmental metric and tracking.

  • Preconstruction project budgeting.

  • Other duties as required depending upon workloads.

5. detailer - Full time

This is a skill position for an individual with Tekla detailing experience with structural steel projects.  The detailer will work under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Preconstruction. The right candidate will also assist developing new estimates and support the estimating department when not detailing active projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Detail structural steel projects.

  • Assist VP of Preconstruction with coordination between modeling software and estimating software.

  • Assist in rolling out procedures for streamlining shop labor into software based estimating process.

  • Train estimators in Tekla usage.

  • Integrate new and existing procedures into streamlined guidelines for future implementation.

  • Be experienced using Bluebeam Revu or Extreme, or possess the capability to learn quickly.

  • Ability to read and understand structural steel drawings, shop drawings and architectural drawings.

  • Experience, or ability to learn FabSuite.

  • Critical thinking, reasoning and professional communication is required.

  • 2 years of education beyond High School in Engineering, Structural or Architectural Drafting or Technology.

  • Positive attitude and a person who enjoys challenges and troubleshooting.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Strong attention to details, ability to multi-task, highly organized, computer and tech savvy.

  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced team orientated office environment.
